Short n' juicy reviews for basically every game I've played this year. (Spoiler: I played everything.)
• Resident Evil 2 Remake. Playtime: 50 hours. Rating: 9.5/10. It's incredible. Stressful. Scary. Beautiful. And most importantly, FUN. Probably one of the best and certainly most polished horror games I've ever played. Although it's hard to beat Outlast 2 (don't yell at me ok O2 is just simply amazing and if you disagree we can fight bro.)
• Divinity Original Sin 2. Playtime: 293 hours. Rating: 7.5/10. This game is THE DEFINITIVE co-op RPG. Turn-based reactive combat is fun. Story is pretty well-written. World is beautiful. Honestly I did get a little bored of the combat after the second act, but the co-op was just too frickin good. We happily restarted the game after finishing Act 1 like 20 times to remake our characters & party. Originally, me & some friends tried beating this game in 2018 but it took like two full years for me to finally see the ending lmao. Also, Sebille is wife.
• Monster Hunter: World. Playtime: 91 hours. Rating: 7/10. Man it's a pretty good game, lot's of "oooh, aaahhh" moments. Combat is very fun. If I didn't co-op it with a friend I probably wouldn't have played anywhere near 91 hours though. Slaying an electric unicorn with my boy George is still stuck in my tiny caveman brain's catalog of good memories. Lots of customization which is nice, & the coral place is GORGEOUS.
• Devil May Cry 1 HD Playtime: 20 hours. Rating: 8/10. I love this game, someone force me to start the next few games in the series pls. Except 2. We all know 2 sucks. I'd say more but it's an old game so everyone probably already knows this is hack n' slash gold.
• 7 Days to Die Playtime: 17 hours. Rating: 5/10. Eh, pretty average survival game. Rust is more polished somehow. Ark is more in depth. This one's just kinda meh. I guess it's only ideal if you prefer zombies to dinosaurs or... 12 year old rust tryhards.
• The Witcher 3 GOTY. Playtime: ~100 hours? Rating: 7/10. Yea, it's the Witcher. Don't really need to say anything else. Didn't blow me away though, but was pretty good. Shoutout my main chick Yen. DLC bosses were sick bro.
• Resident Evil 1 HD Playtime: 20-25 hours (played some offline.) Rating: Also 7/10. I love RE. This game is pretty good, was a little clunky but definitely still enjoyable. Played this before RE2 to prepare and man they aren't even sorta similar. Started RE1 at the end of 2019 and almost didn't come back to it, glad I did.
• Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Playtime: 57 hours. Rating: 10/10. Yeah, this game is incredible. It's art. The setting, the theme, the world-building. It's all perfect. I'm a sucker for boss fights and even more a sucker for soulslike games. This one is the best. Every single detail is perfectly crafted, the combat is beyond rewarding, this game is just so good. One of the only games I ever plan to replay. Except the demon of hatred. No thanks.
• Mortal Kombat 11. Playtime: 83 hours. Rating: 6.5/10. Coming from a long-time MK fanboy, this is hands down the best MK game imo. The story was even pretty cool. The only reason my rating isn't higher is because personally I feel like the game doesn't offer much that the older games didn't. It's like I was burnt out on it before even starting to play it. But it does refine basically every old system, offer some cool customization, and looks gorgeous. Also, BRUH SKARLET IS HOT.
• DARK SOULS™ II: Scholar of the First Sin Playtime: 53 hours. Rating: 5/10. I love Dark Souls. I have over 350 hours in DS3. Over 70 in DS1. This one is pretty okay, but just kinda fails to do anything amazing. Even typing this I can't remember a single boss fight. I'm literally trying to think of one single one as I type and I'm getting nothing. Oh right, the ancient dragon was cool. That was optional tho LMAO.
• Tyranny. Playtime: 20 hours. Rating: 7/10. Pretty solid CRPG. I do really be lovin villain protagonists. Story-telling was pretty vivid. Probably the best modern CRPG.
• Yakuza 0 Playtime: 70 hours. Rating: 10/10. THIS GAME IS A MASTERPIECE. The story is absolutely breathtaking. The combat is extremely fun. The world is so detailed, & so so absorbing. God I love this game. Playing Kiwami 1 & 2 next bc I miss Kiryu. I've forced several of my friends to buy this game, and bought copies for those who wouldn't. You MUST PLAY this.
• Smite. Playtime: 300+ hours (lol). Rating: 8/10. Man, I don't even really like mobas but Smite is unbelievably addicting. This game trapped me in the void. I still play from time to time with the boys as this game replaced Overwatch as our go-to competitive game. It's a good (infuriating) time. Arachne is wife. I know I said Sebille was wife earlier, but nvm.
• Saints Row: The Third Playtime: 12 hours. Rating: 5/10. I mean, it's not bad? Has a lot of novelty fun value. Co-op is cool. But it's obviously dated and doesn't really do much in the way of capturing my attention.
• Resident Evil 7. Playtime: 5 hours. Rating: 8/10. Strangely, I have no idea why I've played this game so little. It's everything I like in a horror game. And it's BEAUTIFUL. I tried playing thru this game in 2018 too and still didn't get very far. I have no explanation for that because it's so good. Probably gonna play again soon.
• Star Wars Battlefront 2 (The new one) Playtime: ~25 hours. Rating: 6/10. Beautiful game, a lot of "whoa..." moments at first glance. But definitely lacks depth and isn't very fun to play more than a couple times.
• Thumper Playtime: 5 hours. Rating: bruhh...... This game is a hellish rhythm game where you're basically a beetle smashing into walls to angry music and killing demons? Or something like that.
• Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Playtime: 50 hours. Rating: 10/10. This game is so so so so so good. It's clunky. The combat is almost terrible. It definitely shows it's age. But god, I love it. The world & the story are so charming. Even the clunkiness only adds to it's novelty & charm. Reminds me of how I felt playing Fallout: New Vegas back in the day. But strangely, I'd pick this game over Fallout hands down. Also, I've kinda got a thing for hot vampire chicks whether they're irl or poorly rendered 2005 rpg ones. No luck on Tinder finding the 2005 rpg version though.
• Pillars of Eternity. Playtime: 20 hours. Rating: 6.5/10. Better gameplay than Tyranny, worse story.
• Dying Light Playtime: 21 hours. Rating: 6/10. It's your average zombie game, just with included parkour. The parkour is GOOD. Everything else is like I said, pretty standard zombie game. Developers are amazing though & clearly care about their fans which is nice to see.
• Tabletop Simulator Magic: The Gathering. Playtime: 60 hours. Rating: 9/10. After hundreds of hours of my life playing Hearthstone, I finally tried Magic out with some friends. IT'S SO GOOD. So many cool deck archtypes, so many cool combos. If I wasn't a slave to Blizzard I'd ditch Hearthstone and run to MTG: Arena immediately.
• Stardew Valley Playtime: 2 hours. Rating: 3/10. This felt like a mobile game. Don't yell at me, please. I just seriously did not have any fun LMAO.
• Beyond: Two Souls. Playtime: 10 hours. Rating: 7/10. Good story, good game. Had most of the story spoiled years ago by watching a walkthru but it had been long enough where I forgot most of it. Made me wanna play Detroit: Become Human though.
• Halo 2 Campaign (MCC) Playtime: 10 hours. Rating: 8.5/10. God this game was good, and the remastered version is arguably better. Got some goosebumps during the cutscenes. Reminded me of little Stevie playing Halo back in the day.
• Risk of Rain 2. Playtime: 21 hours. Rating: 5/10. I mean, it's an okay time waster with the boys. But there really isn't a lot of content. Just items which are essentially stat boosts and like 15 monsters to fight.
• XCOM 2. Playtime: 3 hours. Rating: 5/10. Not for me, cool theme though. Just soooo slow, even as a strategy game fan.
• Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Playtime: 17 hours? mostly offline so idk. Rating: 7.5/10. Really good, gameplay is so SMOOTH. Weird dystopian theme was nice.
• Grim Dawn Playtime: 23 hours. Rating: 6/10. Better than Diablo 3.
• Sea of Thieves Playtime: 29 hours. Rating: 4/10. I'm bored. Yawn. Ship combat is fun. Screwin' around with friends is fun. But that's all. More sea shanties please.
• Dragon Age: Inquisition. Playtime: 15 hours. Rating: 7.5/10. Honestly, it's pretty good. I need to go back and play more but I kinda really enjoyed what I've played so far. The 7.5 will probably be an 8 after I get deeper into the story. Big fan of the Dragon Age universe.
• WWE 2k20. Playtime: like 5 hours or something. Rating: 3/10. man don't even ask.
• Still playing Smite lol. Playtime: like almost 400 hours now.
• Total War Warhammer 2 + ALL DLC. Playtime: 61 hours. Rating: 9/10. I love strategy games, and this one is simply the best. Did I spend $120 on it? Yeah. Do I regret it? Yeah, kinda. But the game is GOOD. SO many cool things to look at. Battle combat is exciting every single time. Co-op & Head to head is fantastic. GOTH CHICKS EVERYWHERE BRO shoutout dark elves. An amazing game, expecting to play another several hundred hours.
• The Wolf Among Us Playtime: idk? played offline & forgot to record playtime. Rating: 8.5/10. This game's story is such a breath of fresh air. The gameplay is typical Telltale and your choices don't really seem to matter, but I don't really care. It's good. The characters are all so interesting.
• Among Us Playtime: shut up. Rating: 0/10? 10/10? who knows. Don't ask for details.
• Assassins Creed: Origins. Playtime: 2 hours. Rating: so far? 8/10. Just started it and LOVING it so far. Obviously not deep enough for a real opinion. But the visuals are stunning, and I love me some Egypt theme.
• Watch Dogs 2 Playtime: 2 hours. Rating: so far? 8/10. Literally same as AC: Origins except hackers and not camels.
And then games I played for only a few hours but forgot which month: The Suffering & The Suffering: Ties that Bind. Rating: 7/10. GREAT old school horror games. The Nine Parchments. Rating: 4/10. Harry Potter Diablo 3: Mobile game edition. Leisure Suit Larry 7. Rating: 5/10. Why did I play this? Respect the vision tho. The Evil Within. Rating: 5/10. Need to give this one another go, first glance didn't impress me. Human Fall Flat. Rating: 2/10. Hahahahahaha bodies move weird hahaa. Unhealthy amounts of Hearthstone. Rating: 11/10. This game controls my life. Alien vs. Predator (2010). Rating: 6/10. Cool theme, cool gameplay, love Predator. Lacks depth. Resident Evil 4. Rating: 4/10. I can't be the only one who doesn't like this one, right? Horror RE > Action RE Insurgency Sandstorm. Rating: 7/10. Solid war sim. Beats CoD lmao. Silenced shotguns ftw. Shadow Warrior 2. Rating: 7/10. FUN combat. GOOD monster design. No depth yada yada. Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2. Rating: 8.5/10. The best metroidvania game made imo. So charming, big big fan. DUSK. Rating: 6/10. Doom but scarier. Outward. Rating: 4/10. Boring. Spyro: Reignited Trilogy. Rating: 6.5/10. Cute game, I'll revisit when my brain works again bc rn I'm too busy playing Hearthstone. Path of Exile. Rating: 5/10. Grim Dawn but F2P and less fun.
TOP 5 OF WHAT I PLAYED THIS YEAR: 1. Yakuza 0 2. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice 3. Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines 4. Resident Evil 2 5. Smite
